Optical absorption and single–particle excitations in the 2D Holstein t–J model Abstract To discuss the interplay of electronic and lattice degrees of freedom in systems with strong Coulomb correlations we have performed an extensive numerical study of the two–dimensional Holstein t–J model. The model describes the interaction of holes, doped in a quantum antiferromagnet, with a dispersionsless optical phonon mode. We apply finite–lattice Lanczos diago-nalization, combined with a well–controlled phonon Hilbert space truncation, to the Hamiltonian. The focus is on the dynamical properties. In particular we have evaluated the single–particle spectral function and the optical conductivity for characteristic hole–phonon couplings, spin exchange interactions and phonon frequencies. The results are used to analyze the formation of hole polarons in great detail. Links with experiments on layered perovskites are made. Supplementary we compare the Chebyshev recursion and maximum entropy algorithms, used for calculating spectral functions, with standard Lanczos methods.

The optical conductivity of charge carriers coupled to quantum phonons is studied in the framework of the one-dimensional spinless Holstein model. For one electron, variational diagonalisation yields exact results in the thermodynamic limit, whereas at finite carrier density analytical approximations based on previous work on single-particle spectral functions are obtained. SPECTRAL PROPERTIES OF THE 2D HOLSTEIN t–J MODEL

Employing the Lanczos algorithm in combination with a kernel polynomial moment expansion (KPM) and the maximum entropy method (MEM), we show a way of calculating charge and spin excitations in the Holstein t–J model, including the full quantum nature of phonons. To analyze polaron band formation we evaluate the hole spectral function for a wide range of electron–phonon coupling strengths. For t...

Effect of impurities on the optical properties of KTP single crystals grown from flux

In the present work, KTP crystals have been grown by spontaneous nucleation technique in flux medium using K6P4O13 flux. 0.4-1 °C/h cooling rates were applied in the spontaneous nucleation process. The presence and amount of impurities has been determined by using XRF. The optical transmission spectra of impure KTP crystals in the UV–visible region are discussed. The transmission cut-off is cle...

We study the electronic excitations near the charge-transfer gap in insulating CuO 2 planes, starting from a six-band model which includes p π and d xy orbitals and Cu-O nearest-neighbor repulsion U pd. While the low lying electronic excitations in the doped system are well described by a modified t−J model, the excitonic states of the insulator include hybrid d xy − p π states of A 2g symmetry...
